Sharon Land Trust Seeks Accreditation Renewal from the Land Trust Alliance

The Sharon Land Trust is pleased to announce it is applying for renewal of its accreditation, initially awarded in 2014. A public comment period is now open.

Accreditation is facilitated through the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance. The Land Trust Alliance represents more than 1,300 land trusts and promotes voluntary land conservation to benefit communities through clean air and water, fresh local food, natural habitats, and places to refresh our minds and bodies.

A Land Trust who is accredited meets national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. It provides the highest level of service to the community. Accredited Land Trusts are stronger and more effective. “Accreditation has made Sharon Land Trust a stronger organization, helping us to provide sound governance and financial control while meeting our mission to protect the rural heritage of our beautiful Northwestern CT community,” says Maria Grace, Executive Director of the Trust.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how the Sharon Land Trust complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards, see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/help-and-resources/indicator-elements

Public comments will be most useful prior to June 30, 2019.
